In the kitchen – Mal wanted a design to complement the breathtaking coastal views, so he chose to design with strong horizontal lines. A mixture of glass for the cupboard door fronts, Hettich aluminum doors and custom-made handles formed the base of the kitchen design. A quality benchtop solution was required for the kitchen and scullery area that provided a seamless workspace and the capabilities to work well with Mal’s unique design ideas.
DuPont Corian® in Cameo White was selected as the ideal material as it allowed Mal to create a stunning effect by placing LED lighting around the edge of the benchtop. The lighting feature allows the clients to change the atmosphere of the room by changing the colour of the lights. The same lighting is also installed in the stair threads to create an integrated space between the two areas.
Due to its non porous nature – DuPont Corian® in Cameo White was used in the scullery benchtop to create a space that is minimalist and easy to clean. The stainless steel sink is undermounted for easy one-wipe cleaning and maintenance.
DuPont Corian® was applied in the powder room to create an art-like, sculptural vanity that replicates a natural waterfall. Water softly falls from the tap to the Corian® spout and then continues to the larger square basin at the bottom. This piece creates serene water sounds to the space and adds the luxurious warm touch of Corian® solid surfaces. With the easy cleaning hygienic properties and high durability of Corian®, this amazing design piece offers comfort and practicality to the home.
“Using Corian® has allowed me to use the element of light through LED lighting, and to be innovative in design”, says Mal on his striking designs.
Congratulations to Mal Corboy of Mal Corboy Design for pushing the boundaries of design in this unique project.

Catherine and Julie created a bright entry space that is warm and welcoming to both adults and children. DuPont Corian® was used in Glacier White for the reception bench that begins at adult height and curves down to child level. The seamless material continues by sweeping up the wall and curves around the top of the reception area creating a hygienically clean space. This provides a place for the children to feel as welcomed as the parents on entry – by having their own reception space at their own height.
Catherine and Julie wanted to incorporate a ‘playful’ theme to keep children occupied – while their parents attend to paperwork and reception. A simplified abacus was created with a Corian® back board that is placed in front of the reception desk in the bright colours of Corian® Hot and Sun. The circular pieces on the abacus are also in bright colours – Sun, Mandarin and Hot – and create a bright and attractive space for children to be entertained in.
“Corian® worked for this project on a number of levels- it gave us the shapes we wanted, is easy to clean and is capable of handling the heavy wear and tear that a reception desk in a child care centre is subject to” says Catherine.
The joining properties of Corian® also offered a smooth finish with no open joins and has the ability to be thermoformed into shapes” Catherine adds.
Congratulations to Catherine Baudet, Julie Bonfield and Ferrier Baudet Architects for their win on this creative, bright and imaginative project.

Congratulations to Amy Lanham of Nettleton Tribe Architects

Nettleton Tribe Architects has been awarded for their design on the Santos House refurbishment in Brisbane, Queensland.
The refurbishments to Santos House include an upgrade of the existing entry lobby and lifts, a rear extension to increase tenancy area, and core amenties upgrades across fourteen levels.
The design objective for this project was to enlighten the space through the considered use of materials and finishes. A sleek, geometric design was explored to target a corporate inner city market. Organic shaped motifs were introduced to balance and compliment the overall design.
An important design requirement was the use and consideration of the existing finishes including the glass re-enforced concrete cladding. Glazed patch fittings were used to aligb the new glass and Corian® walls precisely amongst the existing structure and cladding elements for a seamless integration. A mix of vision and obscure glazing combined with Corian® Glacier White enabled Nettleton Tribe to balance the privacy demands of the new tenancy spaces.
Corian® was successfully utilised and vertically positioned on the main entry lobby as seamless integration with the existing finishes was achieved.
Congratulations to Nettleton Tribe Architects for this striking design.

Gray Puksand
WINNER EDITION 3 - COMMERCIAL CATEGORY
2009 GRAND PRIZE WINNER

In the heart of Melbourne's business metropolis, the designers of Gray Puksand were able to deliver a new refresh approach to the refurbishment of a building foyer and street facade with a balance of modern and traditional design techniques.
To ensure the viability of the building, the new identity was an essential component of the renewal process. As spatial constructs are more or less defined by existing parameters and the expected life span is approximately 15 years, refurbishment of the 31 Queen Street foyer space is akin to the approach of set design. In this case the performance is the day to day activity of tenants within the commercial environment.
The city is now a 24/7 entity, where it's important to 'market' such addresses outside of traditional building hours. Coming to life at night as a sculptural space to street view assists with the significance of the place.
A number of elements have been implemented to strenghten the building appearance from street view. Externally it has received a dynamic facelift with the installation of a sculptural canopy. Designed in association with artist and sculptor Dan Templeman, the new canopy provides a new identity and presence at street level. A pure abstraction form to 'go with the flow' on one hand, yet 'critique' the geometry of the existing building on the other.
Internally, a folding wall of Corian® and internally-lit perforated metal panels surround and reinvigorate the core. With lighting, the core wall punches out into the street, creating an impact both during the day and night, providing a strong aura and connection to the outside. The purity and abstraction of form adds a three dimensional layer to what is typically a flat plane.
According the designers of Gray Puksand, flexibility, seamlessness and consistency of finish were key elements to the design; and Corian® enabled them to achieve all these important elements.
Congratulations to James Grant, Lui Martino and Paul de Podonlinsky on a grand and monolithic design!

Congratulations to Daniel Seyd from In Site.

Leading Australian designer Daniel Seyd from In Site has recently finished the interior renovation of a Victorian terrace house, consolidating two narrow rooms in one larger space whilst maintaining the external fabric of the building.
The design features a 6 metre long Corian® clad island, acting as a dining table and kitchen bench, using the natural drop in floor level with a single step across the new elongated space. The island bench has a 'sharks nose' profile to the leading edges, giving it a sharp yet slim appearance along the length of the bench. This design gave the kitchen and dining space a unique feature as it seamlessly integrated with other decorative finishes to create a warm and soft ambience.
Daniel Seyd chose Corian® as the preferred material as it allowed him to design the space with a product that delivered a durable, warm and flexible elements plus the the ability to mould it to specific shapes and create edges that look aesthetically strong yet feel soft and crafted at the same time.
Congratulations to Daniel Seyd and the In Site team on delivering a beautiful seamless design.

Geyer

The Geyer design team worked on Aristocrat's new head office in Sydney. The new office has two very distinct areas, the typical working floors and the client areas on the ground floor. The single most important space in the entire building for Aristocrat is the showroom - where the products are displayed for customer to view and play.
During the design process, Corian® was the material of choice for the client's central focal point the bar. Corian® sheeting with a custom design engraved to the rear to create 3-dimensional perspective was installed onsite plus the concealment of the flourescent tubes to enhance the patterns which comes to life.
With the use of Corian®, Geyer was able to eliminate design issues as junctions between top, front and side are seamless. The different panels blend into one, which provides a clean, bright and functions well in a food an beverage environment.
The ease with which Corian® can be formed into various shapes allows designers to create luminous objects featuring an endless range of surface effects that are anything but superficial.
Congratulations to the Geyer team for an excellent 3-dimensional design!
