A new identity and new life for Trampolines Suite Hotel, thanks to brilliant design solutions and the technical beauty of Corian®
The demand for high quality, versatile materials for exterior building cladding has become significant. Corian® offers superior performance compared to many conventional exterior cladding solutions, thanks to its excellent combination of durability, design flexibility and renewability. People are often surprised by the versatility and effectiveness in architectural applications of a material that was originally created by to build kitchen with superior performance and high aesthetic quality. But what you see in Trampolines Suite Hotel is DuPont™ Corian® in one of its many transformations made possible by the technology of DuPont, and by the creativity of architects and designers.

|
|
July 2012 – In Riccione, Italy, a historic symbol of the social life of the Romagnola Riviera has been completely transformed. This is both a functional revolution, with the conversion of the original ‘Trampolines’ landmark into a hotel restaurant, and a technical-aesthetic revolution, with an architectural construction inspired by cruise ships and featuring an articulated facade made with DuPont™ Corian®.
"The Trampolines Suite Hotel is characterized by an architectural shell of over a thousand square meters entirely made of DuPont™ Corian®, a material that has caught my attention for its unique combination of aesthetics, design flexibility and functionality. Forty years of Trampolines history have been redesigned, renovated and interpreted to create an architectural structure masked by a ship's appearance: Fellinian spirit, minimalist culture, Romagna heart,” continues architect Antonio Scarponi.
"The eighteen suites of Trampolines Suite hotel, overlooking the sea and a beautiful solarium with hot tubs, are architecturally enclosed within a classic naval design. Large terraces and balconies reminiscent of huge cruise ship decks are completely clad with Corian®. The homogeneity and full color throughout the entire thickness of Corian® gives the building the elegance and rigor of a totally white dress, in cruise style," added architect Scarponi.
"The Trampolines is the story of our family and I think that it is a good example of successful Italian and Romagna entrepreneurship. It is a place that has grown through efforts and attempts based on strong will, passion for work and for our land. The starting point was the economic boom of Italy in the Sixties, a boom that is part of the imagery of generations of Italians and that has led many locations, including Riccione, to a national and then international success. The Trampolines is now an excellent restaurant and a hotel with cutting-edge architecture, architecture with a truly special look, a hotel that offers a 360 degree high quality, experience. It is a jewel of the Riccione promenade and of the entire Riviera Romagnola, an evolution that we are very proud of," says Orfeo Scarponi, owner of Trampolines Suite Hotel.
Corian® has been used often in combination with natural wood – also for interior applications, such as minimalistic design furniture for the reception, suites and tables of the restaurant area, in an elegant aesthetic continuity with the outer shell of the building.
Trampolines Suite Hotel has an architectural shell made of DuPont™ Corian® that evokes the great tradition of naval architecture; project by architect Antonio Scarponi, Conceptual Devices; photos Trampolines, all rights reserved.

Harelbeke City Hall by Dehullu – Architects in Belgium
Award winning design firm - Dehullu of Belgium have completed the design of the Harelbeke City Hall in Belgium, with a Corian® façade installed on the outside of the building.
|
|
|
|
|
The extension of Harelbeke City hall consists of a new Corian-clad building that connects two existing ones, one of which was renovated. The new entrance building was designed to be a sustainable contemporary ‘landmark’ on the main road of Harelbeke.
The works that have been conducted are part of a masterplan that was developed in 2007. Due to the growing needs of the city services, the Town Hall was looking for an extension of their site. In order to anticipate these growing needs a masterplan was developed. In this plan the historic site of a 19th century flax-factory was incorporated in the new site of the Town Hall. Redeveloping the new site, a new entrance building was designed centrally located between two existing historically valuable buildings.
The new entrance building links its adjacent buildings. None of the floors of these neighbouring buildings were corresponding. The challenge was to make all of the floors accessible for wheelchair users. Therefore the location of elevators and staircases was very carefully thought of.
Since its central location in the city, the new entrance building was designed to be a contemporary ‘landmark’ on the main road of Harelbeke. Therefore the cladding of the facade and the roof was executed in dirt repelling white material. The material is a mineral substance of the brand Corian. It is the first time in Belgium that this material is used as exterior cladding.
Furthermore, part of the historical flax-factory was renovated. The walls and roof of this part were carefully preserved and restored according to the recommendations of the institute of cultural heritage. On the inside of this historical part, the pattern of the tiled floors refers to a weaving technique, to make the link with the history of this building.
Sustainability was an important aspect in the building process. No cooling was installed in this office building. Due to the high degree of isolation, the use of window blinds and the white colour of the cladding, overheating of the building can be avoided for the Belgian mild summer climate.
In a next phase the central spot in the site will be transformed into an atrium, in order to centralise all of the city services so the current and future needs of the civilians can easily be satisfied.
ARCHITECT: Dehullu – Architects, Harelbeke, Belgium. LOCATION: Marktstraat 29, 8530 Harelbeke, Belgium.

Mulders vandenBerk Architecten of Amsterdam have completed a playground building in a park in Utrecht, the Netherlands, with a Corian® façade engraved with images of fairytales from around the world. The idea of the building is to excite and stimulate curiosity and creativity of the children.
The pavilion splits the playground in two. One side is used by teenagers, the other by young children. The interior is divided into three separate playrooms featuring bright colors, simple furniture and elements to interact with. Each room is related to an individual facade and offers a specific orientation to its context. This combined with a unique “wallpaper”
gives a particular identity to each room. The design invites children to play, to discover and invent games.
The exterior of the building is the opposite of the ‘active’ playground with its many climbing frames and slides. The building is a calm oasis in the playground. The façade is a large white Corian® surface with milled jagged lines. At first sight there are only lines. A second view reveals decorative characters; fairy tales from around the world. Graphic design studio Design Arbeid selected together with the neighborhood children the various fairy tales. The graphic design is cnc-milled out of the façade to stimulate the senses and the imagination.

A Colourful Kitchen Renovation with Corian® Solid Surface
DuPont™ Corian® solid surface for a colourful kitchen, inspired by traditional Basque fabrics.

Architect Jean-Jacques Marvielle decided to use a "Bayadere" style for the renovation of a traditional Basque home situated on the banks of Arcachon (southern Atlantic coast of France). The multi-coloured, wide striped fabrics of Basque textile traditions inspired the unifying thread of this project that provided an exemplary canvas to demonstrate the design versatility offered by DuPont™ Corian® solid surface and its many colours. The distinctive "Bayadere" character of the kitchen is recreated on the countertops, sink, cooking area, cabinets and central table, as well as the wall cladding. The specific arrangement of colour bands between the sink and the countertop and between the countertop and the cabinet required meticulous skill.
A large sheet was created using calibrated coloured bands of DuPont™Corian® solid surface material glued together, with special attention paid to the shade of glue used so as to avoid the mixture of colours. The large "Bayadere" patterned sheet was then cut, assembled and glued to create the worktop, borders, cupboard and sink. A single sheet as the starting point for all kitchen elements allowed a perfect match between the coloured bands.
The architect Jean-Jacques Marvielle, was pleased with the result, “We obtained a unique and innovative product: Corian® it delivers a feeling of longevity, which is very appreciated in kitchen. The countertop and table borders reinforce this impression. The strength of the material, the possibility to obtain round shapes, the absence of visible seams, the uniform colours and the artistic freedom are all qualities that led to the choice of using this material. The independent functions of “water” and “fire” face each other. The central table is the element that connects these two windows of polychromatic light, framed by gray painted cabinets.”
Architect: Jean-Jacques Marvielle – 17 Avenue Du Parc Pereiere, 33120 Arcachon, France
